On 26 Nov 18, at about 2304 hrs ICGS Ameya, received an VHF distress call from mechanised fishing boat Lavanya (Reg No. TN-11-MFB-278) with 05 crew onboard reporting heavy ingress of sea water, whilst in position 20 n miles North-East of Tondi. ICGS Ameya located the distressed fishing boat at 2321 hrs and immediately dispatched its Technical team with submersible pump and Damage Control items to arrest the flooding.On assessing the situation onboard the fast sinking boat, four crew of the fishing boat were evacuated onboard. However, despite efforts, MFB Lavanya could not be salvaged due heavy water ingress and the boat sank at about 2340 hrs. All the rescued fishermen were later handed over off Mandapam to Fisheries officials at 0655 hrs on 28 Nov 18.

Indian Coast Guard has saved more than 9000 lives till its inception. Distress Alert Transmitter, EPIRB are some of the handy communication tools which generate alerts along with GPS location and help the coast guards trace the people in distress while fishing or traveling in sea.

Distress Alert Transmitter a Life Saving Device for Sea

Distress Alert Transmitters, developed by ISRO’s Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, is a satellite-based system which helps the fishermen to get traced by MRCC and team of local coastguards within almost no time. Its a boon to the fishermen and biggest assurance of safety in harsh situations of sea and at the time of emergency. The technology has been transfered to Indian companies in Make in India regim. How it works

INSAT based Distress Alert Transmitter is used to transmit emergency conditions and position location to a central HUB station via UHF transponder of INSAT for rescue operation. It can be easily installed in boats or other vehicles. In case of emergency, user just needs to switch on the DAT unit. User is required to select a message (e.g. fire in boat / boat sinking / medical help / other emergency) by pressing the corresponding switch provided on the system. The DAT combines the message with position of the boat obtained through GPS, and transmits the same to a central HUB station. The DAT repeats the message every minute for first five minutes and then every five minutes till it is switched off manually or until the battery life gets over.

In case of turbullent situations normally none of the comunication systems like phone, GPS, GPRS etc. works. Satellite communication is a reliable communication system and has been tested and approved by Indian Navy and Airforce again and again.

Seeing the usefulness and reliability of the DAT systems various State & Union Territory Governments like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharastra, Daman & Diu, Andman & Nikobar, Lakshdweep etc. have been distributing these systems as social responsibility towards fishermen. In past few years the awareness regarding the usage and safety of the fishing activities has increased a lot and same is the case of demand of DAT.

जीवन के सुख की तलाश और यह यह कभी न ख़त्म होने वाली प्यास कब ख़त्म होगी क्या जाने। रोज-बरोज़ सुबह-सुबह निकल जाते हैं मरीचिका में शीतल जल की खोज में। कभी मिलता है, कभी नहीं भी मिलता। आखिरकार जिंदगी में अनिश्चितता को इतनी तो गुंजाइश देनी ही होगी।

जिंदगी की अंधेर गलियों का चमचमाता गलियारा पसरा हुआ है,
 चकाचौंध में चौंधियाई आँखों के सामने मंजर बिखरा हुआ है ,
बहुत चाहते हैं समेटें बाँहों में जो कुछ भी पीछे बिसरा हुआ है।

कभी घने अँधेरे में साए दिखते  हैं अनदेखे-अनचीन्हे ,
चले आते हैं सर झुकाए, दुबकते सिमटते, अपने लबादों में हथियार खोंसे,

आज का मंज़र

 आज  का मंज़र कुछ ऐसा  बेरंग है कि हर तरफ धुंध दिखती है .
दिलों के द्वार बंद हों , तो यूँ ही अरमानों पे दूसरों की रोटियां सिकती हैं  .

जागने - जगाने  के ख्वाब नहीं  पालता मैं , अभी पलो ख्वाब्गाहों  में .
