Panchakshar: The Courageous Story of Five Indians - 4

“Bhagvati don’t you think that our Ganpat has matured now?”
“Hmm! Thats true, he has grown like you, tall and strong!!”
For wife his husband is always the ideal and best man in the world. Bhagwati also felt the same.
“He has already turned up 20; I am thinking that we should plan his engagement this year.”
“Really?!! With whom? Have you seen some girl for him?”
“Why to see a girl? Our Mr. Bechan’s daughter is a perfect match for him. Isn’t it? And best thing is you also know her well.”
“As she belongs to the native area of yours there will be good understanding between both of you.” “If mother in law and daughter in law are happy the whole family will be happy.”
“Hmm, that’s true!” “Besides she is quite fair and beautiful.” “Let Ganpat come, I will speak to him.”
“What is the need to speak to him? He is our son, so certainly will accept what we have decided for him.”
“As you wish Shambhu, but it would have been better if we would have asked him regarding this.”
“Fine, we will see. Let him come.”
.... “Arre Ganpat! Have the milk kept on table and speak to your father. He wants to have a conversation with you.”
“What kind of conversation Maa?”
“You ask yourself to him?” ... and there was a smile on her face.
“What is the matter Bapu?”
“Beta now you have grown up and are able to take your own decisions, but I would like to take a last decision for you.” “Don’t you think that we can take decision for you?”
“Why not Bapu?”, “And whatever age I reach, I cannot match the experience and wisdom that you have got from your ups and downs in the life.”
“Beta I have thought of your engagement with daughter of Mr. Bechan...Dimple”
“But...but father...”
“What happened?”
“I love someone else.”
“Who is she?”
“Shruti, she studies in my college itself.”
“What is her cast?”
“I don’t know.”
“You are in love with her, and never bothered to know her cast?”
“Bapu, one doesn’t need to see cast before being in love with someone.”
“Don’t try to teach me! If you will marry someone, she will be from our cast, otherwise you will not marry at all.”
“Does that mean, there is no value of my wishes?”
.... “No”..........
“If my wishes don’t have any value, what is the value of mine? I am also useless for you... I am leaving this house! let Ms. Dimple come and be here. I will also see, she will be here for whom?!!”
“Fine...fine..., I have seen many people like you who leave home.”
......and Ganpat instantly left the home. He didn’t care about, where to go and what to do. He just wanted to leave the place and did the same.
It’s not so that today’s youth is not enthusiastic. They are lacking direction otherwise any task can be finished in seconds by them....
Bhagwati had been crying continuously and ruined her health. Her eyes had gone red and she had been murmuring due to distress and misery.
“Why did you let him go?”, “The time has gone bad.” “Had I beard him for nine months in my womb to see him wandering here and there on roads?”... “Will you be able to find a son like him even by searching with lamp?”... “He obeys you, whatever you ask for! He didn’t obey for one thing and you took the same on your ego!!” “He is young blood; you should have kept patience while dealing with him.”... “Had you kept patience, we would not have lost him like this. What will we do by being in cast or bearing good name in society if he is not there with us?” and she was weeping like anything with these words, tears were lining up on her cheek in hurry to run down.....
It was but natural for Shambhu to get drowned in the tide of her tears. He became very emotional and depressed. Bhagwati’s questions were quite realistic and un-answerable. Ganpat’s absence had made him gloomy. He was repented of his deed. But what could be done now, he had lost his son. His deep regret could not bring back the boy.
